The availability of a simulation model can affect which component, and which vendor, is designed into a finished product. For IC vendors who want a competitive edge, FMF provides the following high quality and cost-effective services:
Working with FMF is the best choice for IC suppliers because:
"At IDT, our customers of strategic importance were asking for VHDL models. FMF models were comprehensive and also that the open source architecture adopted by FMF was very customer oriented. We chose FMF for their quality of service and their highly competitive pricing. IDT has achieved significant design wins in the communications infrastructure market by providing FMF models. To date we have not received any complaints on the models, which speaks volumes for the quality work that FMF did for us." - Sunil Kashyap, Applications Engineer, Multi-Port Memory Products
Free Model Foundry, with highly skilled and trained technical resources in the U.S. and Europe, offers fee-based model development to the community of component vendors. FMF specializes in developing functional simulation models of electronic components used by PC board designers and digital systems developers written in VHDL, Verilog, System Verilog or SystemC. FMF engineers are specially trained for developing component models with uniform style, methodology and standardization. Models are delivered as source code in one or more hardware description languages, along with test benches and documentation. FMF builds these models using existing data sheets. After the initial development fee for the model by the IC vendor, no other additional fees or royalties are charged from either IC vendors or their customers. Our models are open source and unencumbered by usage license or proprietary software. Model Development services are also available to systems houses and EDA consulting groups.
" FMF is a superior source for models because they are available for download immediately, around the clock. There is no need for engineers to email IDT, request a model, and wait for a reply. FMF posts a range of models which are not available elsewhere." Stewart Speed, Applications Engineer, IDT
Free Model Foundry is the leading open source distribution site of component models. Models developed at FMF (unless otherwise requested) are listed and distributed on the Free Model Foundry website. There are no registration requirements or other restrictions imposed to deter design engineers from downloading models for use in component evaluation and design verification. Free Model Foundry has over 50,000 monthly page views, has models for 11,000 parts on the website and millions of model downloads.
Free Model Foundry offers support services for the models created and benefits the IC vendors as it frees up support resources within their organization. Maintenance contracts are available with provisions for assisting engineers requesting support to incorporate models into their design flow. Offering the models to designers will reduce the number of questions asked as simulations preempts questions.
